Fading Winter Lights

back in school I searched for you, we shared 2 of those months,

on the park ground our innocence, was soon to be lost

and our lungs were still pink and our arms were still clean,

we didn't need to think at all, we just needed to dream.

now that time has run away, my mind is feeling old,

and all those years passed like days, those lovers passed like colds

and I never really thought, that I'd cross your path again

but love has no concern, for who and how and when.

and I said I was a hero, but she didn't seem to care

said I was a rock star, and she just played with her hair

then I tried to kiss her in the fading winter lights,

and it didn't seem to matter, that my whole life was a lie.

now we share the music of a thousand teenage bands,

with all that desperate loneliness just crammed between our hands

and I know we've killed each other, more times than I can count,

but I know our hearts are stronger, than whatever holds us down

I know our hearts are stronger, than the hate that we spit out,

I know our hearts are stronger, than one night of falling down

She said she'd be a warrior, with no blood on her sword,

i said I'd be a martyr, if I only had cause,

then I tried to kiss her in the fading winter lights,

and it didn't seem to matter, that my whole life was a lie.

if the day should ever come, that a better man gives you what I can't,

or if we fall, if we fall victim to time,

and forget about those years we could fly.

then keep on loving, keep on fighting, keep some music in your pace

and as long as you're still smiling, then I won't slip away.

but you'll always be my hero and the child in my soul

and in a better universe, I'd never let you go
